Doris (Eklund) Fager, age 99, of Topeka, KS passed away peacefully at her home on March 1, 2024. Doris was born on November 5, 1924 in a farmhouse near Scranton, KS, daughter of Oscar and Ellen (Carlson) Eklund. She grew up on the farm near Scranton, until heading to Chicago to attend North Park College, where she earned an Associates of Arts degree in 1944.

In October, 1946, Doris met Dean Fager at a church Halloween party, and on January 30, 1949, they were married in Topeka. Doris worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in the tax department for several years, and later she worked in the Kansas legislature.

Doris had a strong faith that guided her throughout her life. She was an active member of Brookwood Covenant Church. Doris loved to sing and play the piano, and for many years was either the choir director or pianist at church. During basketball season, Doris was always cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Doris will be greatly missed by her son, Dan (Linda) Fager of Arlington, VA; her daughter, Deanne Benson of Groton, MA; her son, Doug Fager of Shawnee, KS; her granddaughters Krista (Nate) Miller of South Grafton, MA and Ingrid Benson of Washington, D.C.; and her great-granddaughters Carolyn Miller and Emily Miller of South Grafton, MA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, on December 8, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service. Light luncheon immediately following. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, PO Box 8350, Topeka, KS 66608; or the Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
