Mary graduated from Osborne High School in 1957 and graduated from Brown Mackie Business School in Salina, Kansas in 1958. She worked at the State Office Building in Topeka. She met Jerry while he was stationed in Topeka at Forbes Air Force Base. They were married on September 11, 1960 in Osborne, KS. She continued to work until they had their first child and then she became a full-time housewife and mother.
Mary is survived by her husband, Jerry, of the home, daughter, Julee (Berni) Carlson of Tecumseh and son, Jeffrey (Kelly) Sims of Drexel, Missouri, Grandchildren, Kristopher (Tammy) Carlson, Kaitlen (Shaun) Ortman, Kristen (Alan) Koller, Miranda Sims and Nicholas (Brittanee) Sims, ten great-grandchildren and 1 more on the way. Also surviving is her brother, Don (Grace) Laffoon of Laguna Niguel, California.
Mary devoted her life to her family and friends. She was a charter member of Topeka Baptist Church in Topeka and worked in the church nursery and on the weekly cleaning crew for 20+ years. She also spent many years working in the toddler’s class at South Knollwood Baptist Church where they were members for 30+ years.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Topeka Baptist Church, 4500 SW Gage Blvd. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Topeka Baptist Church to nursery/toddler’s ministry.
