Edward L. "Ed" Teets, Jr.
1946 - 2024

Edward L. "Ed" Teets, Jr., 77, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at a Topeka hospital. He was born November 23, 1946 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, the son of Edward L. and Jean (Arbogast) Teets, Sr.

Ed graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1966. He then joined the Air Force where he was stationed in Panama during the Vietnam War.

Ed married Georgia R. Simmons in February 1969. They later divorced but remained close. He started working for Kentucky Fried chicken as a manager for the Lawrence and 3 Topeka locations which led him to start his own company, Teets Egg and Poultry renamed Teets Food Distribution which he owned for about 20 years. He then fell back into his high school pastime working with cars which lead him to purchase a MAACO in Kansas City, Missouri that he ran for 10 years before deciding to retire. Not content in retirement, he continued repairing and painting cars for about another 12 years.

Ed grew up an avid outdoorsman that he enjoyed sharing with his family during summer camping trips and vacationing in the Colorado mountains. He was a hunter his entire life including deer, pheasant and antelope along with elk hunting in Colorado and Wyoming.

Ed grew up in West Virginia but always said he wanted to be a cowboy. He purchased some horses and learned to ride but in true Ed fashion, he began competing. He was a member of the Kansas Team Penning Association where he and his son, Eddie competed in Team Penning in the 1980’s and 90’s on his beloved mare, Chic.

Survivors include three children, Stephanie Thomas of Topeka, Sherie (Matt) Reavis of Olathe, Kansas, Eddie (Gina) Teets of Lawrence, six grandchildren, CE “Trey” Thomas, Aubrey Willis, Sami Thomas, Gabriel Teets, Kolten Teets, Zachary Teets, and his siblings, George “Butch” Teets and James Teets of West Virginia.

Ed was preceded in death by his two sisters, Dorothy Lewis and Sandra Teets.

A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
