Trudy Jane Horting, 68, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 after a 14 year-long battle with cancer.

She was born December 24, 1955, in Concordia, Kansas, the daughter of Edgar and Margaret "Peggy" (Boden) Schroeder. She graduated Tipton High School in 1973. She received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Beloit/ Concordia Votech in 1974.

Trudy spent her lifelong career in nursing for over 40 years working for St. John’s Hospital in Salina, Lincoln County Hospital, Asbury Hospital in Salina and was last employed by Stormont Vail in Topeka, retiring in 2021.

Mrs. Horting was a member and a eucharistic minister of both St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Lincoln and Christ the King of Topeka.

Trudy married Earl Jay Horting on October 26, 1974, in Tipton, Kansas.

Survivors include husband, Earl Jay Horting, children, Jay M. Horting, Adam L. Horting and Shannon M. (Travis) Horting, grandchildren, Kaiden, KaraLynn and Kylie, sister, MaryLynn (Dave) Renken, brothers, Chris (Lisa) Schroeder and James "Jim" (Lorraine) Schroeder and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Trudy loved spending time with her family. You could find her on the deck with her favorite drink Bacardi and Coke. She enjoyed dancing to country music, playing cards, traveling, sightseeing, partying, being at the lake, spending time with friends, and was an avid KU, Chiefs and Royals fan.

Services will begin with a visitation Sunday April 21, 2024 at the Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. A Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2024 at Christ the King Church, 5973 SW 25th St #A, Topeka, KS. Interment will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Franklin Cemetery in Tescott, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Hope Lodge of Kansas City, 1120 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO 64105.
