Johnnie W. "John" Babcock, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024. He was born October 27, 1937 in Earlton, Kansas, the son of Ray and Bernice (Rausch) Babcock.

John graduated from Altoona High School in Altoona, Kansas in 1955. He was an Army Veteran, serving for 35 years before retiring at the rank of Sgt. Major. He was employed as an Area Superintendent for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 47 years before retiring. John was a member of the Lowman United Methodist Church and a life-time member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed volunteering for Doorstep, Meals on Wheels and Let’s Help.

John married Carol E. Craig on December 26, 1958 in Chanute, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include children, Gayle (Kevin) Dopf of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Adam (Lori) Babcock of Urbandale, Iowa, Dana (Arthur) Garland of Topeka, Megan (Anthony) Bond-Toney of Topeka, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and his siblings, Otis, Everett, Jay Dee, Bob and Larry.

John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Verd.

The family would like to thank all staff at Lexington Park Health & Rehab and Ascend Hospice for their loving care, kindness and support given to them.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Lowman United Methodist Church. Private inurnment with full military honors will take place in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Doorstep Inc., 1119 SW 10th, Topeka, Kansas 66604 or to Meals on Wheels, 2134 SW Westport Dr., Topeka, Kansas 66614 or to Holton VFW Post No. 1367, 926 W. 6th St., Holton, Kansas 66436 or to the Lowman United Methodist Church, 4101 SW 15th St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
