Ruby M. Nielson, 92, of Berryton, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at a Burlington, Kansas hospital. She was born January 21, 1932 in Riley, Kansas, the daughter of Randall and Mabel (Dugan) McDonald.

Ruby graduated from Leonardville High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Washburn University. She was employed by Florence Crittenton Services and later was a Substitute Teacher for USD 450. She was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the North Post No. 400 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Ruby married Grover C. Nielson on May 3, 1950 in Leonardville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1992. She later married Carl Francis. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2020. She was also preceded in death by one son, Roderick Nielson on March 14, 2016 and three siblings, Randall McDonald, Clyde McDonald and Leona Gaultney.

Survivors include two sons, Gregg (Elaine) Nielson, Bradley (Michelle) Nielson, three daughters, Cynthia Miller, Lorye (Gregory) Thomas, Stacy Sponseller, her daughter-in-law, Faith Nielson, thirteen grandchildren, Cameron, Casey, Chelsea, Carlie, Chantz, Wayd, Lyndsee, Stefanee, Alex, Nick, Ryan, Gage and Colton, fourteen great-grandchildren and her siblings, Alice Chambers, Carol Skillet and Colleen Rogers.

A Celebration of Ruby's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will take place in Lynn Creek Cemetery southeast of Topeka.
