1943 - 2024

Susan Kay Eaton, 80, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024.

She was born November 8, 1943, in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Maxene (VanDyke) Eaton. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and received her Associate’s Degree from Ottumwa Heights, now Indian Hills Community College. Following her graduation from college, she moved to Orange County, California where she lived until 2021 when she moved to Topeka to be closer to her family.

Sue was employed as an Executive Secretary and greatly enjoyed her work and co-workers in California. When she retired, it took at least three people to replace her.

Survivors include brother, Floyd "Butch" (Kathy) Eaton, nephew, Floyd “Lee” (Kim) Eaton, niece, Jamie Eaton, many great nephews and great great nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sue had a glowing personality, she never met a stranger. She had a love for cats and was a care taker for those that roamed her neighborhood and anywhere else she traveled. She had an eye for crafts and always enjoyed going to craft shows. She loved dancing, music and was an avid reader. She stayed active in her gardening and tending to her yard. Being in California, she lived only a mile away from Disney Land and frequently got to enjoy the nightly fireworks they had.

Sue’s wishes were for cremation. The family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Indian Hills Community College Scholarship, under “Butch, Kathy and Susan Eaton Perpetual Scholarship”, 525 Grandview Ave Ottumwa, IA 52501.
