Truman B. Collins, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was born July 15, 1950 in Mayetta, Kansas, the son of Dewey and Virginia (Powell) Collins.

Truman attended Washburn Rural High School. He helped to maintain the family farm where he became critical in those operations after his father became ill. He worked cattle and hayfields, milked cows, and other farm chores. He worked closely with his brother George at his sign shop in Topeka. He built scaffolding for murals on buildings, silos, and anything pertaining to carpentry safety. He and his brother, George were workaholics before joining the Navy at the age of 18.

Truman was a Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Mobile and the USS Okinawa. He was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He later transferred to the Navy Reserves.

Truman was employed as a Finish Carpenter working out of Carpenters Local Union No. 61 of Kansas City, Missouri before retiring. He was a Master carpenter and even flew to California to assist his brother George on jobs needing his advanced skills, including a job for Johnny Depp and other stars.

Truman was very proud to be a citizen of The Cherokee Nation of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He enjoyed music and played the Bass and Rhythm Guitar with his family, in his church and with friends in a local band. He also enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and dancing. He was very supportive of his children and even learned American Sign Language to communicate with his daughter, Stacie.

Truman married Karen Quinn, she preceded him in death in 2021.

Survivors include children, Stephanie Collins-Schade, Jason Collins and Stacie Collins, grandchildren, Cynthia, Alex, Rebecca, Lydia, Lillian, James, Emerald and Max, 5 great-grandchildren and his siblings, Belva Miffleton of Schertz, Texas and George Collins of Shadow Hills, California, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and many close friends.

Truman was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Francis, and his siblings, Wauneta Robertson, Glenda L. Stenger, Lucille Wood, Helen Collins, Judy Copenhefer, Betty Vickrey, Don Collins, Joe Collins and Ted Collins.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Phoenix Home Health Care and Hospice, 2945 SW Wanamaker Dr., Ste. B, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
