Jerry Lee Tapee, 80, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Jerry was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri on June 10, 1943, the son of John Henry “Jack” and Joyce (DeShon) Tapee.

On December 28, 1962 he married Joan Eloise “Elly” Henderson of St. Joseph. In 1964 Jerry and Elly moved to Topeka where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and began his career with BSNF Railway for 45 years. He worked as a computer programmer, systems analyst, and was in purchasing technology and accounts payable, and was a senior electronic data interchange specialist.

Jerry was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 36 years where he touched many lives and in turn, many lives touched his. He was an inspiration to all and loved by many.

Jerry’s main hobby was spending time with his family and friends. If you ever had the opportunity to talk with him, you could tell he had an overwhelming abundance of love in his heart for everyone around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elly, daughters, Tammy Tapee Lynch (Scott), and Amy Tapee Calgher (Chris); grandchildren, Megan Ospina (Juan), Lauren Lynch Page (Derrick), Chelsea Calgher Dierker (Jason), Patrick Calgher, Christopher Calgher, and Zachary Calgher; great grandchildren, Logan Scholtz (Tim Scholtz), Jayce Sutherland, Oliver Dierker, Sage Ospina, Shane Ospina, and Presley Sutherland; siblings, Jack (Jeannie) Tapee, Joanne Schubert, Jana (Mel) Speer, Judy (Jerry) Geiler, and Jim (Pam) Tapee, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe Tapee, and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, with time for memorial sharing from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at The Great Overland Station, 701 N Kansas Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66608.
