Rita Mae (Servaes) Rookstool, 73, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

She was born July 2, 1950, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Andy and Florence (VanHorn) Servaes. She was a graduate of Atchison High School.

Rita was Shawnee County Treasurer for 12 years and was later employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka until retiring.

She was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka.

Rita married David Rookstool on September 25, 2003. He survives in Topeka. Other survivors include two step-children, David Michael Rookstool of Topeka, Jennifer Rookstool-Beaney of Tacoma, WA; seven step-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Ragsdale of Topeka and Dorothy Lee of Washington; three brothers, Larry, Phil and LeRoy Servaes of Atchison, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-son, Buckstin Rookstool; and four sister, Donna Urban, Mary Ann Kahling, Janet Lee and Carol Noll; and three brothers, Gene, Richard and Louis Servaes.

Rita was strong in her faith and loved spending time with her family. She was also an animal lover, especially horses. She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, gardening and was always helping people.

Honoring her request, cremation is planned. A celebration of her new life ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas . Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
